A film collaboration between Hong Kong SAR and Malaysia opens in mainland China today nationwide (10 August).

Divorced and exhausted, retired actress Moon Lee is offered the chance of a comeback as the lead of a do-your-own stunts martial arts film.

Directed by Chui Mui Tan, the film first appeared in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and in mainland China at the Shanghai International Film Festival and in 2021.

About Chui Mui Tan

Born in 1978, Tan Chui Mui is a Malaysian filmmaker. She graduated from the Multimedia University in Malaysia with a Bachelor Degree of Multimedia in Animation and Film in 2002. Her short films have won numerous prizes and awards at European film festivals. Her first full-length feature film Love Conquers All won the New Currents and Fipresci Awards at the 11th Busan International Film Festival in 2006, as well as a VPRO Tiger Award at the 36th International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2007. In 2005, Tan established DaHuang Pictures, together with Amir Muhammad, James Lee and Liew Seng Tat, to support young Malaysian filmmakers. In 2017, she started SeaShorts, a film festival focused on showcasing Southeast Asian short films.

Barbarian Invasion received a UK Premiere at Mint Chinese Film Festival 2023 in February, a new festival set up by a member of UK-China Film Collab.
