Barbie opened in mainland China on 21 July, same date as most of the regions internationally.
While topping everywhere else around the world, the opening weekend does not look good for Barbie in mainland China, the biggest but the hardest market for box-office worldwide. With a record of only 21 million RMB (£ 2 million) in the opening weekend so far, it is likely that the Chinese cinemas will reduce shows after the first week. When Oppenheimer opens in China in due course when a date is confirmed, it is quite possible that this particular film will beat Barbie in a single and the only market.

Synopsis
