Italian art documentary Botticelli, Florence And The Medici (2020) was released in mainland China at selected cinemas from 13 December.
Limited release is still an experiment in mainland China which was introduced earlier this year to diversify the cinema-going market. Previously this distribution model did not exist in the state-led economy. Several films were selected to participate in this experiment, this Italian art documentary being as one, as well as the Harry Porter series and their re-release.
From the outset of his career under the wing of the Medici family, Sandro Botticelli asserts himself as the inventor of an ideal beauty, which finds its maximum expression in works such as the “Allegory of Spring” and the “Birth of Venus.”
