Cara Cox from the University of Oxford has been selected to join UCFC as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2020-2021.

Here is Cara’s own introduction to her expertise as well as her project at UCFC for this coming year:

“I am currently a finalist studying for a BA in Chinese Studies with Japanese at the University of Oxford. I believe that television is the best way to bring cultural understanding of international cultures to a local community. I am experienced in television production both in the UK and in China, with my main professional focus being on documentaries. During my year abroad I worked at a production company in Beijing, conducting research on a variety of different projects for both Chinese and Western channels. At this company I also helped produce pitch decks for a documentary that went on to win prizes at the Shanghai Film Festival 2019. I have also worked on documentary projects here in the UK that will be aired on the BBC later this year.

‘What TV Channels Want’ is a written report that I will be working on throughout the programme. It aims to get the crux of what makes a documentary appealing to TV channel curators in both the UK and in China. This will hopefully act as a useful guideline to help production companies get their films released. The report will comprise of both written and video components and there will be versions in Chinese and English. Having been exposed to both Chinese and British media, I have come to believe that promoting cultural understanding via media platforms could be a crucial aid in resolving many global issues. This is why projects such as this are so important.”
