Luc Besson returns to China (or perhaps he never left since Pingyao International Film Festival) to promote his new film Dogman.

Dogman first caught the Chinese audience’s eyes from this year’s Pingyao International Film Festival. This is a 2023 English-language French action drama film written and directed by Luc Besson and starring Caleb Landry Jones, Jojo T. Gibbs, Christopher Denham, John Charles Aguilar and Grace Palma. Set in New Jersey, it depicts a man who was abused by his father and loves dogs.

The film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it premiered on 31 August 2023. It was released in France on 27 September 2023.

The UK release has yet been confirmed.

While both Napoleon and Wonker flopped in the Chinese market, it will be interesting to see how Besson can or cannot wow the Chinese audience, a crowd that is getting harder and harder to please.
