Have you always wanted to know more about screenwriting, but haven’t been sure where to start? Do you want to see better representation onscreen, along with more exciting cross-cultural stories?

At UK-China Film Collab, we’re hosting our first online writers’ workshop, aimed at creative writing students and individuals at the very beginning of their screenwriting careers. In this workshop, we’ll take a look at some key examples of cross-cultural storytelling, as well as the basics of story structure – but we’re also really keen to hear your thoughts on the future of representation and international cinema.

Special Guest: Joanne Lau, acclaimed screenwriter and playwright

Moderator: Annabel Jackson, International Film Research and Development Specialist, UK-China Film Collab, MA Student in English Literature at the University of Oxford

In our first workshop, we will also hear screenwriting tips and industry advice from our special guest, acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Joanne Lau. Joanne is a Canadian-Chinese writer living in the UK, who has written in the BBC Comedy Writersroom, won the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum for TV Drama, and was a nominee for the Royal Court Theatre/Kudos Writing Fellowship for her play with Yellow Earth Theatre.

Join our writers’ workshop to meet like-minded people, learn more about the industry, and feel confident with your writing your first synopsis. We can’t wait to see you there!
