Hong Kong documentary Four Trails starts its UK cinemas run from 6 November, opening with 22 sites, the film is distributed by NGO UK-China Film Collab.
A box office phenomenon and word-of-mouth triumph, Four Trails (香港四徑大步走) reveals a side of Hong Kong rarely seen — where steel and glass give way to earth, wind, and endurance. Over 72 hours, 298 kilometres, and more than 14,500 metres of elevation, a handful of ultra runners attempt the city’s most punishing feat: conquering all four of its legendary hiking trails in a single push. The rules are brutal — no trekking poles, no music, and no sleep — only the raw test of body and will. With a success rate of barely 6%, every finisher becomes part of local legend. Directed by Hong Kong born British filmmaker Robin Lee in his remarkable feature debut, Four Trails is both a documentary and an act of devotion. It’s no surprise that the film earned Lee the Best New Director award at the Hong Kong Film Awards — a fitting recognition for a filmmaker who, like his subjects, refuses to stop when the road ends.
As Hollywood’s Variety reports exclusively:
Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat praised the film, stating, “Every Hong Konger should watch this movie.”
The documentary earned Robin Lee the prize for best new director and a nomination for best film editing swept at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards. It also received a special award from the Hong Kong Film Directors Guild executive committee, film of merit from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society, and the audience award at the 21st Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (Sep, 2025).
Four Trails was invited to be the Opening Film for our annual film festival Odyssey, where it also received this year’s highest recognistion, The Founder’s Award.
