Trinity CineAsia is set to release the eagerly awaited Hong Kong crime epic, The Goldfinger, in UK and Irish cinemas as part of the film’s worldwide release coordinated for 5 January, with previews from 30 December.

The film will notably reunite major stars Andy Lau (The Wandering Earth II, House of Flying Daggers), Tony Leung (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Grandmaster) with writer-director Felix Chong (The Silent War, Overheard) together for the first time in 20 years, since their 2002 box office sensation [2003 in the UK], Infernal Affairs. The original award-winning film and trilogy would go on to earn global acclaim and inspire Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, for which he finally won an Oscar in 2007.

Set in the 1980’s, The Goldfinger follows a stock market crash causing the sudden collapse of a multi-billion-dollar company. An elite anti-corruption investigator uncovers a criminal conspiracy involving the company founder, resulting in a sprawling investigation in pursuit of the truth.

The CineAsia brand, operating under Trinity Filmed Entertainment, is recognised as one of the premium labels for current martial arts and Asian action cinema in the UK. Leading the way in bringing Asia’s most iconic stars and new talent to audiences, CineAsia strives to introduce exciting new content. Recent UK releases include fantasy epic Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms crime thriller Lost in the Stars, epic sci-fi The Wandering Earth II and fraud crime hit No More Bets.

Cedric Behrel, Managing Director of Trinity CineAsia, says: “We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. We’re thrilled to be working with Emperor again on this once-a-lifetime opportunity for us to be involved with this incredible creative team and we intend to push it as far as we can go across UK and Irish cinemas. Infernal Affairs was a seminal film that has been imitated many times over but never surpassed. The Goldfinger, with its lavish period sets, costumes and true story of fraud and corruption, with two major international stars, is the kind of cinematic film that can resonate with audiences here and show the enduring legacy and power of Hong Kong cinema.”

The Goldfinger is co-produced by Emperor Motion Pictures (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Emperor Film Production Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Maoyan  Culture Media Co., Ltd., and will have its global release on 30 December. In addition to the UK and Ireland, the film will be released across Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, North America and Canada.
