Jessica Shi from the National Film and Television School (NFTS) has been selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a member via the Future Talent Programme 2023-2024.
Jessica (Jingye), a current student at the National Film and Television School, graduated from Aberystwyth University with a degree in BA Filmmaking. With over 5 years of filmmaking experience, she has showcased her producing and coordinating talents in various short films and features in the UK and China. In addition to her role as a producer, she has also been involved in short film distribution and film festival coordination.
Her proposed project is to launch a new creative enterprise – ‘Spring Outing Films (春游短片发行工作室)’ – a visionary initiative aimed at enhancing the distribution for independent and student short films in China and the UK. As passionate filmmakers themselves, her team recognises the potential of independent short films and the challenges they face in reaching a wider audience. The project aims to establish a cost-effective short film festival distribution network as the new company’s core service, with a dual objective of promoting Chinese films to a global audience and facilitating the introduction of international films to the Chinese market. By bridging these cinematic cultures through festival distribution, they aspire to contribute to a broader understanding of storytelling, culture, and perspectives on a global scale.
As part of the Future Talent Programme, UK-China Film Collab will play an active role in supporting Jessica and her team to launch their new company as an investor in-kind.
