Lea Pan from Manchester has been selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2023-2024.
Here is Lea’s introduction to herself and her project for this year:
“I recently graduated with an MA in Arts Management from the University of Manchester, building upon my undergraduate foundation from the Shanghai Documentary Academy. My academic background and practical experience have been heavily influenced by documentary filmmaking, with a particular focus on the topic of education and development of Chinese youth. During my undergraduate studies, I produced two documentaries on this theme and served as a media specialist in a program dedicated to supporting exceptional school principals in China’s mountainous regions for two successive years.
Over the past five years, I have gained a wealth of experience working on a variety of projects including journalistic micro-documentaries, stage photography and award-winning short film productions. In the most recent year, I have practised and explored the creative industries in Manchester, Sheffield and London, which has provided me with the opportunity for cross-cultural exchanges and artistic practice in different regions. Recently, I have been involved as an Artist Liaison for a UK-China arts exchange programme organised by the British Council in association with East and Southeast Asian Contemporary. In this program, I was responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading a group of nine contemporary Chinese visual artists, curators, and creative writers from various partner cities in China, with the aim of strengthening cultural ties between Greater Manchester and Chinese counterparts.
As a member of the Future Talents Program, I am dedicated to continuing my research on the management of international co-produced documentaries. Specifically, I hope to explore the management strategies of co-producing documentaries in China and the UK, explore the opportunities and challenges involved, and contribute to the success of transnational collaborative projects.
