In the past decade, Chinese science fiction has been a particularly rich source of discussions on the “soft power” of Chinese culture in global order. This film event and panel discussion at the British Film Institute explores the impact of Chinese sci-fi on shaping new perspectives on global dynamics.

Panellists include:

  • Chen Qiufan: Bestselling Chinese speculative fiction author. Author of “Waste Tide” and  ‘AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future’ (co-authored with Dr. Kai-Fu Lee)
  • Professor Leigh K. Jenco: Professor of Political Theory at the LSE and Project Lead of the Chinese Global Orders convening programme, funded by the British Academy.
  • Professor William A. Callahan : Professor of International Relations at the LSE, with research expertise in Chinese Global Orders and science fiction.
  • Xueting Ni: Translator and Editor of Award-winning Chinese SF Anthology Sinopticon
  • Dr Hiu Man Chan (De Montfort): Founder & Executive Director of UK-China Film Collab (UCFC)
  • Dr Mia Chen Ma (Strathclyde): Research Fellow for Wellcome Trust funded Global Programme on Medical Humanities in China and the UK.
