Odyssey 2024 will take place between 16 September and 16 October across the UK and online, focusing on the theme of “Food and Travel”.
We have an ideal, that food and travel are what connect people, just as cinema.
Therefore, we have chosen the festival theme this year to focus on “Food and Travel”. We look for those cinematic moments that have delivered a synthesis in the understanding of our relationship with the society and those common grounds among people.
The theme of this year was inspired by a post Covid-19 moment, when cities began to re-open in the UK. December 2022, London Chinatown was busier than ever. Tables were set up on the streets and people were eating out, enjoying a moment of re-connection. It was then we realised that food plays an important role in cross-cultural communication. Nothing can be more comforting when you enjoy some good food. And cinema, it is what takes us somewhere else that we have never been, as a form of virtual travel.
Now in its 4th edition, Odyssey is the biggest film festival in the UK in conversation with Greater China and Chinese communities worldwide via a specific theme each year. We continue to innovate our curatorial philosophy, we are committed to inventing a new space for dialogue and constructive debate in the public during difficult times. We are independent, and we actively advocate issues around UN’s SDGs via our film festival activities.
