Pingyao International Film Festival 2023 (11-18 October) kicked off in the ancient town of Pingyao this week.
Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival (PYIFF) was initiated and founded by Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhang-ke in 2017. PYIFF is named after renowned film director Ang Lee’s remarkable work Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, with Lee’s special recognition. The Festival is held annually in Pingyao, an ancient city with a history of 2,800 year, located in Shanxi Province. The Festival is co-organized by Pingyao Film Festival Co., Ltd and Shanxi Film Academy.
Aiming to raise communication and cooperation between filmmakers of China and non-Western, developing countries, and to encourage dialogues between Western and non-Western films, the Festival pays special attention to films from China, Asian, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa.
Focusing on new works from young directors, the Festival dedicates itself to promoting and providing a platform for young directors that are creative, imaginative and powerful.
The festival opened with Wei Shujun’s Only The River Flows and close with the world premiere of Fei Yu’s Football On The Roof.
