After voting by the previous members, Rino Lu was selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a new member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2024-2025.

Here is Rino’s autobiography:

“Xuanlong (Rino) Lu is a London-based artist, filmmaker, and film critic whose interdisciplinary practice spans moving image, curation, and writing. Holding an MRes in Art: Theory and Philosophy from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Rino’s research and creative work explore the intersections of memory, identity, and cultural displacement, reimagining personal history as a site of resistance and transformation. An IMDb-profiled filmmaker, Rino has written and directed a number of award-winning short and feature-length films, including Street Girl (2022), Once Upon a Time in Nanjing (2023), and When the Sun Comes Down (2024). His works have been officially selected at festivals such as the Cambridge Short Film Festival, Goa Short Film Festival, and London Lift-Off Film Festival. Parallel to his film practice, Rino’s moving-image installations — including Look What You Made Me Do (2021) and Limitation (2022) — interrogate intimacy, spectatorship, and the mediation of selfhood in the digital age.

Rino is also the founder and director of Green Ray, a London-based film organisation dedicated to promoting Sinophone independent cinema. Through curatorial projects such as Fractured Puzzles and the long-term programme Invisible Cities, he seeks to foster intercultural dialogue and deepen public understanding of contemporary Chinese visual storytelling. As a film critic and journalist, Rino has covered major festivals including Cannes, Venice, Berlin, BFI London, and Sundance, contributing bilingually to international outlets such as World Screen, Asian Movie Pulse, Deep Focus, Naiguan Film, Directube, and Aside From Books. His curatorial and critical work bridge UK and Chinese film cultures, cultivating new audiences and critical conversations around independent cinema. Rino’s ongoing practice continues to explore how film and curation can serve as tools for empathy, exchange, and reimagination across cultures.”
