Ruohan Tang from the University of Southampton has been selected to join UCFC as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2020-2021.

Here is Ruohan’s own introduction to his expertise as well as his project at UCFC for this coming year:

“Currently, I am a doctoral research student in Film Studies at the University of Southampton. I was previously awarded for Bronze Medal at the Sixth National Young Scholars Forum of Film Studies, organised by the Beijing Film Academy. I have experience working in documentary production as researcher, scriptwriter, director and producer. The film which I worked as a scriptwriter earned the Best Potential Newcomer Award at the Changchun Film Festival, and I also participated in various projects which have been shortlisted in pitch sessions of the Guangzhou International Documentary Festival and Sheffield Doc Festival. My academic research focuses on space and memory within participatory video in modern media. My research interests also include media technology, interactive visual media, immersive documentary and the technicalisation in documentary industry.

For my project proposed to the UK-China Film Collab as a member of this year’s Future Talent Programme, I plan to develop an in-depth cooperation model for documentary organisations and institutions between China and Britain, with an aim to establish a forum titled China-UK Doc Lab together. The China-UK Doc Lab will provide an environment to facilitate further cooperation specialising in documentary, hatching potential international documentary project and supporting talent documentary producers. Meanwhile, China-UK Doc Lab will also aim to support experiments in exploring future form of documentary within the emerging media technology.”
