Sally Shangguan from the University of York has been selected to join UCFC as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2020-2021.

Here is Sally’s own introduction to her expertise as well as her project at UCFC for this coming year:

“Hi, I am Sally Shangguan and it is a great honour to join UCFC’s Future Talent Programme as an International Film Policy Analyst. I am a third-year PhD student at the University of York, and my research focuses on how film policy has shaped the UK’s film industry from the 1900s to the present. I also have an interest in the China-UK Co-production Treaty, and how China and UK’s film industries can cooperate better in the future.

I had some filmmaking experience in my work and during my Masters study, this practical experience in film and TV industry has helped me to gain a better understanding of the enviornment. To follow UCFC’s non-profit mission, I hope to contribute to building a stronger connection between the film industry and academic researchers, as well as between China and the UK. I look forward to working with other talents selected in the programme and getting closer to our dreams together.

Besides films, I love photography and horse-riding, becoming an outstanding cinematographer is still my dream. My favourite film changes every year, but my favourite Chinese director has always been Ang Lee.
