Szymon Grochal from the University of Hertfordshire was selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2021-2022.

Here is Szymon’s introduction to himself and his one-year project:

“I have always been passionate about art, especially about writing and the media industry. As a kid, I said to myself that I want to make something better than “Lord of The Rings”, which is my best-loved story. Ever since that ambition has determined my life. I have just finished my second year of BA (Hons) Film and Television Production at the University of Hertfordshire with a focus on screenwriting and directing. I am certain that I want to pursue my career in these fields. I consider the media industry as the greatest medium for influencing human emotions and that is definitely what I want to do, influence people by telling valuable and memorable stories. I have done numerous short films, commercial projects and I have managed my own YouTube Network, which achieved 31 thousands subscribers and 7 million views. I have been deeply interested in Cinema and Television of China for a long time. My main goal is to spread this knowledge and make it more accessible.

Over this year of the Future Talent Programme, I am planning to develop a film project, which will tell a story about friendship between the United Kingdom and China in the purest and the most natural way, as a relationship between two ordinary people, beyond the politics and frontiers. The main idea is to deny harmful stereotypes and present both cultures to the unaware audience in a very engaging way. I look forward to working with other talents and creating something spectacular.”
