Grace Chang plays a variation on Carmen, a nightclub singer involved in a tragic romance with a pianist. Shot in high-contrast black and white, the film paints an enticing portrait of the smoky, alcohol-spiked atmosphere of 1950s nightlife. Meticulously restored in stunning 4K, it features a jazz-inspired score combining Chinese and Western elements, and Chang’s iconic performance.
