Yawen Liu from the London Film School has been selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2021-2022.
Here is Yawen’s introduction to herself and her project for this year:
“Hi everyone, I’m Yawen, a final year master student, majoring in International Film Business at the London Film School. I have always been passionate about film producing. I have been involved in the production of many films and TV series, as well as the distribution of three imported films to China before I came to the UK to study. I wanted to expand my international perspective and explore the practical process of co-production.
Over this year of the Future Talent Programme, I plan to develop an original feature film project, which tells a story about transracial adoption between the United Kingdom and China in a realistic way of narration. The development of the story is based on mutual care of natural human tendency instead of race or skin colour. The project focuses on the self-identity of the adopted community and explores the representation of multiculturalism in British Chinese film. I hope the story will strike an emotional chord with the international audience. Also, through this project, I intend to support transracial adoptees to voice their concerns and offer the audiences in both countries a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures with a theme that connects the UK and China.
