Yuzhuo Wang has been selected to join UK-China Film Collab as a member via the organisation’s Future Talent Programme 2024-2025.
“I am a PhD Candidate in film and television studies at the Communication University of China (CUC) and a visiting postgraduate researcher at the University of Leeds (October 2023 to December 2024), with research interests in emotion and affect, and feminist media studies. My PhD thesis is concerned with female negative emotions in contemporary British and American TV series. I am an active member of several international academic bodies, including IAMCR, ECREA, and MeCCSA, where I have presented my research papers and projects.
Beyond academia, I hold a BFA in Screenwriting from CUC and have been working as an independent filmmaker. My films have been selected for notable festivals, such as interfilm Berlin, Izmir International Short Film Festival, and 16 DAYS 16 FILMS. My first encounter with UK-China Film Collab was in 2022 when my short film Then She Went On Stage (2021) was selected for Neo Horizon: The Audience Award at Odyssey 2022. I’m delighted to reunite with the organisation as a long-term member and greatly value the opportunity to work with this dynamic community. I also remain open to collaborations that align with my professional expertise and interests.
With my experience and passion for film, my proposed project is to contribute to Odyssey 2025 as a curator, including organising a women-centric special programme under the festival’s theme—if possible. I will also represent the NGO by engaging with film festivals and screenings in China, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening regional collaborations.”
